Welcome to the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce
Located between Dallas and Houston, I-45 and US 84 intersect, Fairfield was founded in 1851 and was designated as the county seat. In 1919 the present courthouse was constructed which remains the center structure of the Town Square in Fairfield. Farming and ranching are an important part of Fairfield commerce as well as natural gas and coal. In 1969 a steam electric station was located near Fairfield to use the lignite resources in the area. The plant required the construction of Fairfield State Lake which has become known as one of the best fishing lakes in the state.
